Niagara (1953)

Niagara was directed by Henry Hathaway and stars Marilyn Monroe and Joseph Cotton. Monroe plays a cheating wife who is always dressed for sin in high heels and tight clothing–and she and her lover plan to kill her husband. This is beautifully shot film noir, with lovely landscape shots. I can’t believe I’ve never seen this film before. Highly recommended–easy to follow, and not the typical cop or detective fare.

The more I see her the more I’m amazed. Like Madonna, I think the woman is a blonde genius. I guess with Madonna the blonde part isn’t real. Anyway, did you see The Misfits? The suggestive steaminess was hotter than any rated x film I’ve been unfortunate enough to see, and not a single bit of nudity or groaning and grunting. It was all seduction and implication. The spirit of the independent cowboy Clark Gable and his willingness to kill beautiful stallions to make some money to live made me cry. What an intense movie. I think I’ve seen Niagara, but should see it again. I saw an ISU student production of Bus Stop that was quite excellent, surprisingly. The movie with Marilyn is also great.
